This high-protein, low-calorie vegetable dip is made with cottage cheese, light mayo, and ranch seasoning. It’s a favorite to bring to parties because I know there will be something I can eat that helps me stay on track.
Why I Use Cottage Cheese Instead of Sour Cream for Dip
Traditional veggie dip often begins with sour cream mixed with ranch seasoning. If you’re aiming for higher protein and fewer calories, blended cottage cheese is an excellent swap. When pureed until smooth, cottage cheese takes on a similar creamy texture and pairs perfectly with ranch flavors.
Calorie- and protein-wise, cottage cheese is more efficient. Gram for gram, sour cream can have nearly three times the calories of cottage cheese. The same volume of cottage cheese delivers significantly more protein — making it a better option if you’re trying to meet daily protein targets while keeping calories in check.

Wanting a Snack That Actually Fills You Up
For a long time I didn’t pay much attention to “food noise” because I rarely eat out of true hunger — I’m more of a grazier. What I learned is that when you reduce food noise, your physiological drive to seek food decreases. In other words, you stop thinking “I need a snack right now.”
A high-protein approach can help. The protein leverage hypothesis suggests people keep eating until they meet a minimum protein target. If you satisfy your protein needs, cravings and food-seeking behaviors often subside.
Other ways to quiet food noise naturally, here!
Enter cottage cheese. Typical low-fat cottage cheese nutrition looks like this:
- High in protein (about 13 g per 1/2 cup)
- Roughly 100 calories per 1/2 cup
- About 5 g carbs per 1/2 cup
Pair that protein-rich base with fiber-packed vegetables and you have a snack that helps slow cravings and keep you satisfied.

What Is Whipped Cottage Cheese Veggie Dip?
Whipped cottage cheese is simply cottage cheese that has been blended until smooth. Many people avoid cottage cheese because of its curdled texture; pureeing it removes that issue and creates a creamy, spreadable base that works well for both sweet and savory recipes.
One popular variation is an orange creamsicle-flavored whipped cottage cheese that’s incredibly smooth and dessert-like. I wanted a savory counterpart, which led to this ranch-style dip — creamy, flavorful, and high in protein.
Best Veggies for This Cottage Cheese Veggie Dip
Most raw vegetables work beautifully. I like assembling a charcuterie-style tray to keep on hand or to bring to gatherings. Some of my favorite dippers are:
- Bell peppers
- Cucumbers
- Carrots
- Snap peas
- Cherry tomatoes
- Celery

How I Use This Dip When I’m Tracking Calories
I’ve always been a member of the “clean plate club,” so when I make this dip I usually log the full recipe. One full recipe is about 200 calories, so I track it and enjoy every last bite.
