Authentic Macedonian Fruit Platter: Traditional Fruits & Serving Tips

Macedonian fruit plate is a light, refreshing way to finish a meal. Macedonia is abundant in seasonal fruit—apples, plums, peaches, nectarines and grapes are commonly enjoyed there. In hot summer months, after a hearty Macedonian meal, a platter of fresh fruit makes a nutritious and satisfying alternative to richer desserts. Traditional Macedonian desserts also include eclairs, baklava and semolina cakes, but a simple fruit plate highlights the natural flavors.

Any combination of fresh fruit works well. The plate can be served plain, with a drizzle of sugar syrup, a spoonful of cream, or a splash of liqueur, but we often prefer the pure sweetness of the fruit itself. For a decorative touch, arrange the slices in a sun pattern to echo Macedonia’s flag—a bright, sunny motif that complements the colors of the fruit. Enjoy!
