4th of July party favor baskets for kids – keep kids entertained while they wait for the parade or big fireworks show with this patriotic party favor basket.

Summer means late nights playing outdoors, backyard barbecues, pool days and, of course, a big 4th of July celebration in the middle of break. This month the Michaels Makers theme is celebrations, and Michaels remains a great spot for DIY party supplies—from paper crafts and baking items to outdoor decor and floral accents. I love assembling treat bags and favors for kids, so I put together an easy patriotic berry-basket idea you can use for a 4th of July party or to give each child before the parade.

Supplies:
White baskets
Ribbon
Crinkle shred filler
Sunglasses
Necklace
Bubbles
Snaps
Party poppers
Temporary tattoos
Pop Rocks or similar candy
Push-pop candy
I kept the design simple by gluing patriotic ribbon around plain white berry baskets. You can find similar baskets in the party aisle at Michaels. Unfinished wood berry baskets are another nice choice if you prefer a rustic look or want a basket that can be reused for other treats.

Fill each basket with crinkle shred and a mix of small toys and treats. Good filler items include chalk, snaps (kids love these), party poppers, confetti, bubbles, patriotic tattoos or stickers, beaded necklaces, and glow sticks. Choose items that suit the ages of the children you’re gifting so the basket stays engaging and safe.

We plan to hand the baskets out just before the parade begins. My husband and I will be running a five-mile race that morning, so the little patriotic baskets should keep our kids entertained while they wait with grandma. They’re also handy for a neighborhood gathering, backyard picnic or fireworks viewing, giving kids small activities and treats to enjoy while adults set up.
