Hi friends,
Before I get into this weekend’s recap, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the Aurora theater shooting. Moments like this remind us to hold our loved ones close and to remember those we’ve lost.
Our weekend started early on Thursday. That evening I met Listy and Nick for happy hour at the Tavern. Between kickball, a meeting with an accountant, and catching up on work, it had been a hectic week, so I was craving a Moscow Mule to melt away some stress.
After happy hour we headed to The Burnsley Hotel for a fundraiser supporting Family Tree, a nonprofit in Denver that helps families dealing with domestic violence and homelessness. Listy works with Family Tree and invited us to the event. The theme was speakeasy-inspired, so attendees wore everything from flapper dresses to zoot suits, and a jazz band provided music for the evening. It was a meaningful night for a great cause, and the photo booth was a highlight.
Friday arrived a little slower for Mr. B and me after Thursday’s festivities. We may have enjoyed one too many drinks the night before, and the morning was spent recovering. Mr. B went to work while I did a bit of shooting for the upcoming week—expect a coconut-themed project soon.
That evening we ended up at the race track for the Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, about 20 minutes from downtown Denver. Mr. B was invited by a company he works with, and I tagged along. Watching cars hit speeds near 300 mph is exhilarating, and the trip was made even more fun by quoting the entire movie Talladega Nights—Ricky Bobby would have approved.
On Saturday I was up early to run 12 miles with Listy—having my running partner back felt fantastic. We had plenty to catch up on, so the miles flew by. The rest of the morning and afternoon I spent relaxing on the couch and working on the computer, with Mr. B joining me. Three monitors between us—definitely cozy, but it works.
Later that afternoon we met Eric, Jo, Ian, and Jerad for dinner and walked to Lucky Pies, a new spot we’d been meaning to try. The atmosphere was charming, the pizza was excellent, and the red wine hit the spot. It was a relaxed night of good food and company.
After dinner we strolled around downtown and eventually headed to the Yorks’ house for more conversation on the backyard patio. Even at 11 p.m. it was still warm, which kept the evening lively.
With another late night, Mr. B and I decided to sleep in on Sunday. I made breakfast burritos to kick off the day—bacon included—then Mr. B went to work while I checked in with the Yorks to see what the plan for the day would be.
Because it stayed hot, we skipped Wash Park and opted for a few small backyard pools instead. It felt like the right call until a sudden rain shower interrupted pool time, but it was still a fun, low-key way to spend the afternoon.
I headed home after the Yorks’ gathering and decided I wasn’t in the mood to cook, so we ordered sushi for dinner. We settled into our usual Sunday-night spots on the couch and caught up on a show—if you haven’t watched The Newsroom, it’s worth checking out. I expected it to be more partisan, but it’s well written and presents a thoughtful, balanced perspective.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. See you later!
