NOTE: I received product at no charge in exchange for writing about Alaska Home Pack; all opinions are my own.
My first encounter with Alaska Home Pack was during my trip to Juneau for the International Food Blogger’s Conference in 2019. I spoke with Robin about the family-run business, their focus on sustainability, and how they connect seafood lovers across the country with high-quality seafood straight from Juneau. I left convinced: I needed this seafood in my freezer.
I contacted the company after returning from Alaska and soon received my Alaska Home Pack box.
What is Alaska Home Pack?
Alaska Home Pack is a family-operated commercial fishing business based in Juneau, Alaska that ships seasonal, flash-frozen seafood nationwide. Their product is wild-caught in Alaska waters and processed in Juneau. The Alaska seafood I tasted in Juneau and later cooked at home is exceptionally clean, wild, and consistently high quality.

How does Alaska Home Pack work?
Alaska Home Pack offers subscription and one-time boxes containing a selection of seasonal seafood. All items are wild-caught, flash-frozen, and vacuum-sealed (except prawns) so they travel well. You can receive boxes monthly, every three months, or as a one-time order. Box contents vary by season; specialty boxes are available but the main variety box doesn’t allow individual selection.
At the time of writing, a sample box (March 2020) included Dungeness crab, smoked king salmon, king salmon fillets, coho salmon, and halibut bits. Current box contents and details are listed on Alaska Home Pack’s site.
What did you get in your Alaska Home Pack box?
I received my shipment in July 2019. Because everything is flash-frozen and vacuum sealed, the seafood keeps well in the freezer for months.
Here’s what arrived in my box:
- 4.4 pounds Wild Spot Prawns
- 3 pounds Wild Sockeye Salmon Fillets
- 1 pound Wild Halibut Fillets
- 2 pounds Wild Pacific Cod
- 2 pounds Wild Halibut Burger Meat
That’s about 12.4 pounds of seafood. The box cost $230, which breaks down to roughly $18.50 per pound for this particular mix; price per pound will vary with the contents and seasonal availability.

What did you make with your wild Alaskan seafood?
The seafood was restaurant-quality—clean, flavorful, and easy to prepare. Some items were portioned individually while others came in multi-serving packs. I didn’t find any bones in the fillets, and the cuts were consistent in size and quality.
Below are some of the dishes I made, including my Easy Halibut Burgers recipe.
- Air Fryer Breaded Prawns with dipping sauce
- Lemon Garlic Baked Halibut
- Everything Bagel Baked Salmon Salad Bowls
- Lemon Baked Cod
- Baked Cod Tacos with creamy avocado dressing
- Halibut Burgers (recipe below)

All the seafood tasted excellent. Items that were individually portioned were convenient, and multi-serving packs like the cod were easy to split across meals. The fillets were expertly trimmed and free of bones.
Having a seafood delivery option like Alaska Home Pack simplifies getting high-quality wild seafood without visiting specialty stores or restaurants.

Pros of the service
Superior sustainable quality – The seafood is wild-caught and consistently high quality, comparable to restaurant standards.
Completely frozen on arrival – Packages arrived with ample ice and frozen product throughout.
Delivered to your home – Convenient, especially when shopping trips are limited.
Supports small business and well-managed fisheries – Buying from Alaska Home Pack supports sustainable U.S. fisheries and a family-run operation.
Cons of the service
Packaging – Most items are vacuum-sealed in plastic and the shipment uses a styrofoam cooler. While necessary for freshness, it does create waste.
Limited selection control – The variety box is seasonally curated and doesn’t allow pick-and-choose customization, though specialty boxes are offered.
Requires freezer space – Boxes arrive with multiple pounds of seafood, so planning freezer space is important.
