DIY Anti-Aging Face Mask to Reduce Dark Spots and Wrinkles

I use this mask twice a week and have found it gently fades my age spots without irritating my sensitive skin. It also helps reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and leaves my skin feeling firmer.

I make a single serving each time since I’m not sure how well the mixture stores once combined. It’s quick to prepare and only takes a few minutes. I keep a carton of pasteurized organic egg whites and a lemon in the fridge, and I always have honey and unflavored gelatin packets on hand if I want the mask to set more firmly.

The gelatin is optional. Without it the mask still dries and rinses off easily, so feel free to omit it if you prefer. Many commercial spot-fading products irritated my skin, so I developed this gentler, natural alternative. The mask is clear when applied, so it’s unobtrusive and won’t alarm children.

To use, mix the ingredients, apply to your face and neck, and leave on for 10 to 20 minutes or until dry. You’ll feel the mask tighten as it sets. Rinse with warm water and gently pat your skin dry—avoid scrubbing.

If you use carton egg whites there’s no need to worry about salmonella because they are pasteurized and safe to eat without cooking. If you prefer to separate a fresh egg, take care not to ingest raw egg white; the pasteurized carton is the safer, more convenient option.
