Why You Should Never Shop for Groceries Hungry – Smart Tips

Hello friends!

I hope you’re having a lovely day. We finally have gorgeous weather here — the humidity has broken for now, which feels amazing.

My friend Elle and I celebrated with an early morning run. We’re proud of ourselves — this is our third week in a row meeting for Thursday morning runs. I love them: a solid workout plus some fun social time.

This is how we really felt this morning, though:

005

Heh.

Once we started moving, I woke right up. I actually felt great — it was the best run I’ve had in a while, probably because of the cooler, less humid air.

We did our usual super-hilly loop: 4.34 miles in 40:16, average pace 9:17.

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 9:07
  • Mile 2: 9:47 (hill of death, part 1)
  • Mile 3: 9:34 (hill of death, part 2)
  • Mile 4: 8:57
  • 0.34 mile: 8:27 pace

Awesome run! It was the first time in a while I didn’t feel like I was going to die on the hill of death. Hooray!

Post-run stretching and water drinking:

It feels great to be done with a workout by 7:30 a.m.

After the run I rushed home, showered, had breakfast, and was back out the door for class and a biochemistry quiz. I finished the quiz around lunchtime and knew I needed groceries, but didn’t want to shop on an empty stomach. So I treated myself to lunch at the co-op salad bar first.

Yum — I love their salad bar. I always end up with a random assortment of favorites.

With the hungry beast tamed, grocery shopping went much more smoothly. I picked up mostly breakfast and snack items since Matt and I are heading out of town tomorrow for a wedding. Just enough to tide us over: fruit, milk, and spinach for smoothies are essentials for me.

I dug into those strawberries as soon as I got home — a perfect post-lunch sweet treat.

Now it’s back to work: I have two assignments due tomorrow and a blog conference call later today.

Happy Thursday!

Have you ever gone grocery shopping while starving? Did you end up buying anything random? I usually buy more than I need because everything looks tempting when I’m hungry.
